Grid operators, contractors, and the government are joining forces to accelerate the expansion of the electricity grid. Together, they aim to hire an additional 5,000 technicians by 2030. This will be achieved through the new 2030 Scaling-Up Plan, which will receive a subsidy from the Climate Fund.
The Scaling-Up Plan is desperately needed, says Netbeheer Nederland in its press release : "The pressure on the electricity grid is increasing, while the workload continues to grow and more and more companies and institutions are placed on waiting lists. To meet the demand of all customers, additional staff is urgently needed."
The conclusion is clear: work is piling up and regular courses are full. We need to organize the influx of new students differently: more broadly, smarter, and focused primarily on talent that often remains overlooked.
Energy Skills
Together with Alliander, Enexis, and TenneT, we've put our money where our mouth is with the Energy Skills program. This program prepares refugees with refugee status for the energy sector, focusing on technical jargon, safety, and technology.
"In this program, refugees gain the necessary knowledge and skills to work as electricians, for example," says Houda Zaït, the driving force behind the first edition of Energy Skills, in a recent interview with Inclusief Magazine. "I was struck by the work ethic of all the partners; everyone immediately got to work pragmatically. It was wonderful to see the candidates' rapid development."
