From pilot to scaling up: newcomers at grid operator

The SER advocates for better employment guidance for newcomers. For two years now, Energy Skills has been demonstrating how newcomers can contribute to reducing staff shortages in the energy sector.

The Social and Economic Council (SER) issued an advisory report last Wednesday regarding the employment guidance of newcomers. The Energy Skills program has been working with this group for two years to reduce shortages at grid operators. This program is ready for scaling up, but increased involvement of newcomers requires a more active role from municipalities and guidance for both the candidates and the organizations where they end up.

Milou Dirkx from Energeia interviewed colleague Houda Zaït, Stedin project leader Alexander Baas, and SER Crown member Saniye Çelik about utilizing the talents and skills of newcomers in the context of the energy transition. Energy Skills is the preparatory program for newcomers that Refugee Talent Hub offers together with Enexis, Stedin, and TenneT.
