The Finance Academy is an intensive 18-week program in which financial talents with a refugee background develop their professional and personal skills. Together with EY, KPMG and Achmea, among others, the participants not only receive substantive training, but also personal guidance from a mentor.

During the program, participants follow 11 interactive training sessions on various financial topics, such as:

  • Power BI & Data Analysis
  • Audit & Assurance
  • Agile working and problem solving
  • Capital markets and reinsurance

Hard skills, soft skills and mentoring

In addition to these hard skills, participants also develop soft skills in the areas of job applications, cultural competences, presentation and collaboration to increase their chances on the labor market.

Another important part of the Finance Academy is mentoring. Each participant is paired with an experienced professional, who helps them with career questions, feedback and networking opportunities. The regular check-ins ensure that experiences are shared and new insights are created.

A festive closing

On January 16, the fifth edition of the Finance Academy was festively concluded with a closing event in Amsterdam. Participants received their certificate and shared their experiences with each other and with the partners. Many of them indicated that the Finance Academy not only increased their knowledge, but also gave them the self-confidence and connections to take the next step in their career.

On to the next edition

The Finance Academy shows how valuable collaboration between companies and talents with a refugee background can be. We look forward to the next edition and hope to guide a group of ambitious professionals towards a successful future in the financial sector!
